What is Bala Vihar:
Children are a major focus at Chinmaya Mission. The goal of Bala Vihar is to "wake up the sleeping giant" in our children and inspire them to reach their maximum potential by following the values expounded by saints and sages. Bala Vihar is a place for children to bloom and grow. In Bala Vihar we help children to make the right choices in life, because it is these choices that will determine their future. The Bala Vihar curriculum is based entirely on our scriptures. A team of specially trained, experienced, and dedicated teachers teaches the Bala Vihar program. Through games, arts, crafts, stories, and other unique techniques, the Bala Vihar program imparts and reinforces spiritual and cultural values. The curriculum designed for ages 5 through 16 covers different topics such as: · Unique Bala Vihar alphabets · Stories of Ramayana and Bhagavatam · Symbolism in Hinduism · Key to Success - a unique selection from Ramacharitamanasa · Values - as given by Sri Krisna in the Gita · Hindu Culture What is Vedanta Study Group:Chinmaya Study group involves a group of people who meet regularly for about ninety minutes each week. The group studies and discusses scriptural texts according to a prescribed syllabus offers the seeker a systematic exposure to Vedanta. The study group is typically conducted by an experienced teacher or an Acharya who has thoroughly studied the subject matter. “Mere listening will not add to your beauty. These ideas are to be reflected upon deeply and digested slowly. This process is hastened only when you discuss what you have studied with others. Study Groups constitute the heart of our Mission. The ideas, when discussed with others, not only become deeply rooted in you, but as they become clearer in your own understanding, they also inspire those who listen to you. Thus, each student, while trying to strengthen his own understanding, can become an instrument for the spread of this knowledge. This process is the dynamic study scheme followed in the Vedantic tradition. This is not a Chinmaya methodology; it is the most ancient Vedantic tradition of study.” - Swami Chinmayananda
