Chinmaya Mission New York
Hari Om!
As this year comes to a close, Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) New York Chapter has had time to reflect on the incredible strides made this year, and has some very exciting milestones to share with everyone.
On December 9, 2013, the CORD Training Center in Sidhbari received a prestigious national award in recognition of outstanding work in rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in rural India. The "Sulakshana-Ram Janam Pandey Award (2013)" was conferred by the National Society for Equal Opportunities for the Handicapped (NASEOH) in Mumbai. Shri Narender Paul, Senior Programme Manager for CORD, received this award, which is the second national award that CORD has received for its work in disability, inclusion, and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in rural India. Recognition for such incredible work comes with pride from the dedicated efforts of passionate team members, and also from the continued support and encouragement from donors who support work and service for these rural families.
CORD NY remains dedicated to providing continued financial support for these efforts in what modest ways it can. This year, CORD NY hosted its second annual "Stride to Provide" walk through the beautiful fall scenery of Central Park. The 25 attendees of this event walked to raise awareness of CORD's efforts in India. Two high schoolers who recently interned in India shared their experiences observing the women's group meetings and helping villagers build toilet facilities. Their shared experiences and the tour of iconic Central Park spots brought great relevance to CORD's work abroad and the impact we can make with our own hands. In part through your immense generosity, we were able to raise over $30k that will go directly back to CORD. With the holiday season upon us, now is as great a time as ever to reflect on how blessed we are for what we have, and to give back to those who are less fortunate. To share the wealth this winter, please go to http://cordnewyork.org/cord/donate-page/.
We look forward to sharing more exciting updates in the New Year!
Hari Om.
